Renovation-, modernisation and construction works are complex and subject to a variety of questions, especially concerning the ventilation of living spaces, energy saving requirements (EnEV) and public support (KfW). In the following column we would like to answer some of the frequently asked questions for you. Should your specific question not be covered in the FAQ, please feel free to contact us directly.
Our inVENTer representatives can help you with questions and the purchase of our products. You can find your representative’s contact details under the feature inVENTer representatives in partners & fairs.
The number of necessary inVENTer ventilation systems depends on the air volume in the respective rooms. An approximate amount for your project can be roughed out with our demo-calculation tool. (Attention: Please rely on a professionally conceptualised ventilation plan only)
Depending on your electricity provider and occupancy rate of the ventilation unit, the costs per year average at 5 Euros. The iV14 for example needs approximately 0.09W/(m³/h)
Can decentralised units still be publicly supported by the KfW in April of 2016?
Decentralised systems are to have the possibility of public support for efficiency houses 40 and 55, if:
• The attestation of energetic figures is brought by calculation.
• The required figures for transmission heat loss and primary energy demand are satisfied.
And for energy efficiency house 40+, if:
• The heat provision level is ≥ 80 %.
• The fresh air volume flow following DIN 1964-6 is secured.
• The dimensioning concerns the utilisation unit in total.
The dust filter has to be cleaned approximately every 3 months. The dust filter can be cleaned with a simple detergent. We are recommending a second filter to substitute during the cleaning process. Pollen and fine mesh filters have to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks and cannot be reused or cleaned. The inVENTer filters can be purchased from your inVENTer representatives.
We recommend cleaning the dust filter in three month- intervals. It can be cleaned with regular detergent. A second filter to replace the one that is to be cleaned is advisable. The shelf with fan and ceramic core should be cleaned annually. In order to do that you will have to turn off the controller, remove the cartouche and disengage the fan. The cartouche can be rinsed with warm water and can be reinstalled after fully dried. The blades of the fan are damp wipeable. Please notice that detailed instructions on maintenance can be found in the mounting and operating manual.
The inVENTer ventilation units can be mounted by heating, ventilation and plumbing installers. The controllers are typically installed by an electrician.
The briefing about the operation of the inVENTer ventilation system can either be done by the respective installation firm, your inVENTer representative or your landlord/ builder owner.
Die inVENTer-Regler dienen zur Ansteuerung der Ventilatoren und damit zur Regulierung des Luftstroms.
The inVENTer-controllers are a tool to control the fans and are therefore regulating the air flow. The operation modes of the ZR (and the ZR10-D are heat recovery and ventilation (+Off). When the heat recovery mode is activated the fans change direction in intervals of 70 seconds, while the ceramic heat accumulator releases the preserved heat to the fresh air. The ventilation mode does not contain heat recovery as the fans do not change direction. The controllers ZR8-Flat and ZR10-D-Flatcontain a special feature. The mode “0” pauses the devices for 60 minutes, before they restart on the lowest level of ventilation. This provides a constant protection against humidity. The operation modes of the MZ-One are heat recovery, ventilation and pause-function.
Due to the ClustAir- Modules of the MZ-One, a fragmentation into different ventilation zones is possible. It is possible to choose different operation modes for certain intervals. The MZ-One contains a weekly timer as well as a temperature- and humidity sensor.
Depending on the presence of the persons, the ventilation can be regulated accordingly. To sustain a protection against humidity, it is vital that the ventilation device runs on 25% minimum (lowest level) - that is recommended, even when the room is not in use. As soon as there are people in the room the ventilation level is to be adjusted. You can find the exact settings in your personal ventilation plan.
The setting of the MZ-One controller is described in detail in the mounting- and operating manual. If you need help at your house, please contact your inVENTer representative. Even the electrician who installed the device, or the builder owner/ landlord might be able to help you.
The integration of any iV- ventilation system is possible with a MZ-One controller. In order to do that, an interface at the respective Clust Air-Module is used as analogue input. Every device is assigned an adjusted voltage level in the building operation system, according to the level of operation. Further information can be found in the installations manual or you can ask our inVENTer service-staff: service(at)inventer.de.
The LEDs indicate the operation mode. The red LED displays heat recovery – The fans alternate directions every 70 seconds. The blue LED displays the ventilation mode- The fans do not change directions and thus heat recovery is not possible.
The ZR8 and ZR10-D are working with the switch programme Busch-Jaeger Reflex SI, the MZ-One is not dependant on a specific programme.
Unfortunately that is not possible.
In general one has to make the distinction between self-produced noise and noise that comes through from the outside. For a reduction of outside noises inVENTer can provide a sound insulation set. It contains a sound pad, which is applicable to the wall sleeve, a sound insulation insert, which has to be attached to the inner cover, and an Aeroflex sticker for the weather protection hood. It is possible to buy the sound pad and the sound insulation insert independently. Ask your inVENTer representative for more information. If you are looking for a reduction of the noise of the ventilation device, you might want to recheck to ensure that the shelf, containing the heat accumulator and fan, is located towards the outside (at the stopper tape). Dirt can be removed from the blades of the reversing fans with a damp cloth. Please take a look at the respective mounting- and operation manual for further information.

To prevent the development of algae on your facade, it is inevitable that the weather protection hood is mounted correctly. Please note the respective mounting- and operation manual of your system. Furthermore a passivation of the façade may be advisable.
My house is located with great wind exposure. What do I have to consider mounting and operating my ventilation system?
It is recommended not to mount the inVENTer ventilation system on the side of the building with direct wind exposure. Please consult your inVENTer representative for further information.
The inVENTer ventilation devices are working in pairs. Please examine this first. In the next step, one of the devices has to change the direction. In order to do that the connector on the plug connector of fan bus has to be switched. This is how to ensure that one fan is working in extraction mode and the other one in air supply mode, or, after the change of direction, vice versa. Another possible reason for this might be that your ventilation system operates in ventilation mode rather than reverse operation. Please change the settings on your controller to “Heat recovery”.
For the electricity supply of the ventilation device, a cord is used between the controller and the reverse fan. (protective extra low voltage; type of cord in respective mounting and operating manual)
The colour-adaption of your weather protection hood is available in a plethora of RAL-colours. Please contact your inVENTer representative for further information.
inVENTer ventilation systems are a good fit for this kind of situations, for example during an energetic renovation. They are installed in the external wall; it only needs the inevitable borehole. The respective inVENTer controllers are mounted like an average switch. For the electricity supply of the ventilation device, a cord is used between the controller and the reverse fan. The cord can be hidden in a cable duct or behind the plaster by means of a wall slotter.
When you happen to have a fireplace in your house, it is advised to consult your chimney sweep frist.
Humidity recovery describes the recycling of the humidity in the extracted air to the fresh air. Especially in the winter season, dry and cold fresh air is partly provided with extract air humidity, next to the standard heat recovery. Humidity recovery is being generated by every regenerative heat exchanger and a few specific plate heat exchangers. Following the energy recovery process, the efficiency of the heat recovery increases. (The usual measuremnet methods do not cover this aspect and are providing the temperature ratio only.) Since the the humidity recovery does not cause condensate in the heat exchanger, no additional protection against frost is necessary for low temperatures.
What is ventialtion via window rabbet?
It is an alternative to the controlled ventilation of living spaces (central or decentralised). This kind of ventilation is incorporated by the means of small ventilation louvres dirctly into the window. Depending on the differences in air pressure between in- and outside, a predefined amount of fresh air flows into the room. This kind of ventilation provides support since only a small amount of air volume flow is being generated. In oreder to secure the hygenically required minimum air exchange, with the inhabitants being present, additional window ventilation is necessary. For this method, heat recovery is not possible and, in comparison to contolled ventilation of living spaces with heat recovery, it results in a higher loss of heating energy.
