The decentralised ventilation systems by inVENTer can do with low energy consumption. A single device has a power consumption of  1 – 3 Watt. Furthermore, 90% of  the heat in the  room air can be recycled (heat recovery).

How does a decentralised ventilation of living spaces work?

Functionality decentralised ventilation systems

The principle of decentralised ventilation is simple, but efficient. Decentralised ventilation systems by inVENTer always work in pairs. One fan sucks the fresh outside air into the room, while the other one conducts the stale air from the room. The heat of the inside air is being stored in the ceramic heat-accumulator. After the fan changes direction, which happens every 70 seconds, the stored heat enriches the fresh air from the outside. This is how up to 91% of the heat in the room can be preserved.


Installation & mounting of decentralised ventilation devices

  • Control over the individual components with the complete set. Additional material is not necessary.
  • Implementation of the wall sleeve: For the installation into an already existing building there  has to be a core drill hole. In the frame of a subsequent renovation of the facade there is the possibility of enlarging the wall sleeve with a sliding sleeve. 
  • Mounting of the weather protection hood at the facade and opening the hood from above. The weather protection hood can be adjusted according to the colour-scheme of the facade.
  • Mounting of the heat-accumulator: The heat-accumulator is to be inserted into the wall sleeve. The fan is directed at the interior space and is ideally connected to the controller by a specialist. We will happily provide support if you need us to.
  • Mounting of the inner cover: (Insert sound mat) The frame of the inner cover has to be mounted, the dust filter applied, and the cover has to be put on to the frame. For convenient optics you may choose between various inner cover designs.

    Flexible ventilation system for historical building - inVENTer

    Under the proposition to renovate the town library in Schleiz in an energy-efficient way, the challenge was to combine the contrary requirements of climate protection and monument conservation. The preliminary plan to install a centralised ventilation to the head-end building therefore was (turned out to be) insufficient. The installation of flexible decentralised ventilation systems required significantly less constructional measures. They mostly vanish in the walls, so the monument protection was easily satisfied.

    The former administration building of Reuß, located in the Thuringian town Schleiz, had been purchased by the town Schleiz in 2008. The historical building is now used as office of the new library "Dr. Konrad Duden". The official opening of the library of Schleiz had been at the 5th of May 2011. For the exemplary technical and constructional measures in balance with the climate protection, the project was awarded in the frame of the competition "Kommunaler Klimaschutz" in the category "Klimaschutz in kommunalen Liegenschaften".

Architect's knowledge for decentralised ventilation of living spaces

Centralised vs. decentralised ventilation systems

In order to diminish the prejudice decentralised ventilation systems were not  "real" ventilation systems, you can find numerous facts that actually speak in favour of a decentralised ventilation system.

In the field there is currently the option between centralised and decentralised ventilation devices. Especially decentralised systems can, in comparison, satisfy through a variety of positive characteristics that help the expert to convince the end consumer of the product. For example, decentralised ventilation systems are in general more cost-efficient in purchase, installation, operation and maintenance. The laying of expensive piping is not necessary and the mounting is uncomplicated and quickly done. Particularly the electric power consumption ranks low thanks to efficient reverse-fans, and the power consuming heat battery have become unnecessary thanks to construction and functionality. The ceramic heat- accumulator enables to save valuable heating-energy, since the heat is recycled to the filtered air from outside that flows into the room. Equally fundamental is the versatility of the devices. These can also be installed into already existing buildings and do not require extensive construction work or conversion time. The value preservation is especially interesting for owners: A proper ventilation with a decentralised ventilation system prevents mould. This is an advantage for all parties involved – whether it is the uncomplicated planning for architects, the easy installation for the expert, or the healthy living comfort for the resident.

Energy saving regulation 2016 – heightened efficiency in construction and renovation

Construct and renovate even more efficiently with inVENTer

The Energy saving regulation (EnEV) was introduced on July  24th of 2007 and has lastly been changed on October 24th 2015. Goal of the EnEV is it to save energy consumption in buildings. The regulation aims to support the goal achievement of the government in terms of energy policies – especially a climate-neutral existing building stock until 2050.

According to  § 6 Abs. 2 EnEV, a healthy minimum air exchange in residential buildings is required by law. In combination with the policy DIN 1946-6 this is also of relevance for decentralised ventilation devices. The DIN 1946-6 "Lüftung von Wohnungen – Allgemeine Anforderungen, Anforderungen zur Bemessung, Ausführung und Kennzeichnung, Übergabe/Übernahme (Abnahme) und Instandhaltung" requires the observance of the minimum air exchange in respect to health and heating.

The policy further states that a detailed ventilation concept has to be on hand for newly build houses or renovation works. If the concept has been neglected, the planner can be held accountable for possible damages caused by humidity and mould. On the other hand, if it is sufficiently  issued and implemented, the results will be worth it immediately and in the long run:  constant and automatic fresh air for the user, value preservation of the building without mould, legal security for the planner, stable orders for the manufacturers of ventilation devices. The observance of the legal regulations is, in this case, uncomplicated and easy.

Tip: The required ventilation concept with an energetic evaluation can be received from inVENTer. The data can be used for the attestation of the EnEV and KfW.

KfW Funding – New subsidy standards since April 2016

Since the 1st of April 2016, the 'Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW)'  adjusted their subsidy standards to the heightened energy saving measures. The changes apply to the programme 153. Originally it held three different standards for KfW-efficiency houses – the efficiency house 70, 55 and 40. To be clear, this means that measured against a reference-building (100%) the primary energy requirement of a efficiency house 70 is 70%, energy house 55 is 55% and energy house 40 is 40%. An efficiency house 55 therefore only has 55% of the primary energy requirement of the reference-building.

The change now is that a new stage had been introduced – the efficiency house 40Plus. This stage is for houses with a primary energy requirement of less than 40% of the reference-building. On the other hand, the efficiency house 70 had been ended.

What does this mean in respect to ventilation units?

To meet the requirements for subsidy of the efficiency house 40Plus, a ventilation system has to recycle at least 80% of the heat of the extracted room air to the fresh supply air. Furthermore the standards for a 'nominal ventilation' according to Din1946-6 are to be met. That means that the necessary air supply has to be ensured for the compliance of hygienic and health standards as well as for building protection. It is to be taken into consideration that for decentralised ventilation systems, all relevant parameter apply to the whole utilisation unit.

A whole range of the inVENTer ventilation devices fulfil the required standards and therefore are fit for KfW subsidy.

For the efficiency houses 40 and 55 there are further conditions. Here, an analytic verification of the energetic operating numbers as to be issued in order to gain a subsidy possibility with decentralised ventilation units. In addition to that, the predetermined figure for the primary energy requirement as well as for the transmission heat loss cannot be exceeded. To avoid an analytical verification, there is the possibility of combining decentralised ventilation systems. Mould prevention & value preservation

inVENTer – advantage of a decentralised ventilation system for a controlled ventilation of living spaces

To directly target mould prevention , it is necessary to either vent regularly, or implement a  ventilation device. A minimum air exchange is even legally required by § 6 of the EnEV for health and heating reasons. In combination with the DIN1946-6 this means that there has to be a ventilation concept in order to meet the legal requirements.

Furthermore the EnEV states that for energy saving purposes the building has to be constructed with the goal of air impermeability. The consequence is a heightened need for ventilation which is nearly impossible to achieve through window ventilation only, which increases the danger of mould-growth significantly.  The humidity inside the room rises until saturation. When the air cannot absorb humidity anymore, it condensates on cold surfaces, which results in wet spots and ideal substrates for mould fungus. Once in the building, the mould can only be removed with high expenditure.

The installation of a decentralised ventilation unit seems sensible. The needed air exchange happens automatically  and  enables the excess humidity to leave and the fresh air to enter. Mould-growth is avoided and the value preservation of the building is secured.

The incorporated ceramic-core saves the heat in the room-air and recycles it to the fresh air from outside after the van changed direction. This effectively prevents mould , the value of the estate remains and heating energy is efficiently used.

Tip: with an accurate ventilation planning you are, as an architect or planner, legally protected against damages caused by humidity and mould and therefore cannot be held accountable for a missing ventilation concept.

Things to know about window rabbet-ventilation

The decentralised ventilation by inVENTer for a precise regulation of the air flow

The goal of many architects, planners and builder-owners is to find an uncomplicated sufficient and cost-efficient ventilation solution that is conform with all requirements.

It is not always easy to keep an overview of the diverse offers on the market that really fits to the requirements. One of the common alternatives to decentralised ventilation systems in the window rabbet-ventilation. This option requires to remove a part of the window seal and instead build in a ventilation gap in the window frame. The fresh air from outside flows through the lamella-like opening into the rabbet space of the window and runs over to the inside between the frame and wing. A ventilation independent from the user according to DIN 1946-6 is therefore fulfilled, but is merely a ventilation for humidity protection. Little do most people know that such a ventilation is only suitable for unoccupied buildings, that are not heated. For residential buildings however a window rabbet-ventilation is unsuitable also not sufficient for a ventilation concept. In general architects or planners are being held accountable for such mistakes. An additional ventilation via the window is required to reach a 'reduced ventilation (70% of the nominal ventilation)' or a 'nominal ventilation'. In addition to that there is the possibility of  an increased energy-loss, dust- pollen- and insect count, as well as danger of break-ins. Furthermore the incoming air is not heated in contrast to the ventilation with ventilation systems by inVENTer. The energy footprint of the building is impaired which diminishes the possibility of a state funding (KfW). During winter one can reckon with draught, but only if the building has two opposite sides and sufficient pressure-difference. If this is not existing there cannot be any air exchange. The air flow is hard to regulate. At high wind pressure the valves may close automatically, but for other air polluting situation they do not (chemical spills, large fires etc.). With adverse room distribution and wind direction, smells from kitchens and baths can spread throughout the house. With a decentralised ventilation system you are able to precisely regulate the direction of the air flow. The inflowing fresh air is being heated through the ceramic-accumulator. Additional ventilation via window is unnecessary. A ventilation concept with the dimensioning according to nominal ventilation ('comfort ventilation') can be issued unproblematically. The energetic data can be used to apply for funding or construction.
